Xanthus is back to Sg for another 2 weeks before our long separation.

Perhaps to me it is not really long as for current moment I also seldom see him. :(

But I do understand that is for the safety precautions method to be taken for me and Zden.

On sunday, 26sep we brought him to city square mall de arcade to run around. Seems like he enjoy jus punching up n down the button. Pretend to get the rides, pretend to drive daytona,etc
He is quite bad, he is unable to lift up the weight to hit and he keep asking daddy to hit for him like a "ku li" lol...

A weekday with xanthus for shopping trip

He is a bit uncontrolable when he go shopping with us. He still don't understand those item in the shop need to pay money.

He loves pushy toys a lot. Especially dog pushy toy. Sigh.
Then always wanna to bring home one of them. Yet our house already have a lot of toys for him.

Beside pushy toy he also love those electronic ride found in shopping centre. We never wanna to pay for his rides. Not that we r stingy we just afraid is an unstoppable rides for him. Will be hard for us to plan our time.

Xanthus is really super sick on his birthday. He hot bronchitis almost near to neumonia hmm kind of scary to see him cough n no appetites.

He still need to use the neubelizer to resolve phlegm in his lung as he is unable to cough them out deep inside from his lung.

As u can see so much medication to feed him for each day. Of course loss of appetite. Stomach is full of medication.

Xanthus has passed his 2 years old milestone. But this year no celebration held.

A few reason for not doing anything. At first unable to decide or rather agree on doing bday celebration for him.

When the date come near n so Qiao that he got bronchitis（气管炎） near to 肺炎.
So no need to do anything except trying to get his health back to Right track.

We also having hard time to get him for the neubelizer ( refer to picture below). He keep telling us 臭臭 Chou Chou... But still got to do it to clear his phlegm in lung.

The machine: rental fee is 9 dollar per day

The mask n tube: like that for 11 buck.

Over the 2 weeks, he put on some weight during his stay in JB.

Why? Bcos he has his food every 3-4 hours even at night. *Pei fu * my mil can really wake up and do milk for him.

Of course when he is back we also have to do the same for him. This is really a challenge for us.

He learn a lot of things in JB. He start to learn how to use spoon to eat his bowl of rice. He can finish a small rice by himself. He is kind of a meaty person, he love to eat meat than vegetable. So far he eat brocolli, carrot, sweetcorn, etc. not much leafy vegetables was introduced.

This is Xanthus's 2nd chinese new year, so according to chinese lunar calendar year. He is already turning to 2 years old officially.
This year he can run around the house and his favourite new year goodies is "naku" (arrowhead chips). If you wish he can address you, then you will need a "naku" in hand. Then he will willing to address the elderly.
Let me wish him a happy new year and also grow well and stay healthy.

Xanthus has been 1.5 years old. He has been growing to a toddler, required a lot of attention.
So far he like to follow whatever action we like to do. He like to watch Tv especially the advertisement. He will follow those ppl's action in the advertisement.

5 July 2009(Sunday)
Early in the morning, Little Xanthus give me a surprise. He said "ma ma pao pao" with his both arms up towards me. Wahaha he can really talk already? Maybe just some illustion.
We brought him to Junction 8 Swensen to collect the ice cream cake. This is the cartoon character from The incredible's baby- Jack. We really think they really look alike. Not only the look, both of them got very hot temper.

2-5pm we have a small gathering to sing a bday song for Xanthus and also help to eat up the cake. In the end we still have a lot of eat. Sigh.....
I think my whole day meal is soooOOooo fattening.
Xanthus got his 1st bite of Pizza, Cheese cake and also chicken. His favourite still is the Pizza.
Anyway he still got to drink is normal milk milk.

Today, I will announce Xanthus is fully recovered from that "irritating virus" influenced by me. How come? It all started by the "Half Cooked Cockles". I ate them 2 weeks ago due to my craving in the end, I gotten sick. By vomitting,bloated tummy and diarrhoe. Then after 5 days of my illness. Xanthus is showing the same sign as me. At first, we thought maybe just coincident. But I believe is not, is must be a kind of virus which spread among the family member. After Xanthus gotten sick, follow by daddy then Daddy's grandparent both also having the same sign. Then more to come Daddy's brother and "Haishan" jie jie also got the similar issue. Oh dear... how come like that? Mummy very stress lei. Mummy also bitten by red ants, don't know that red ant got spread any skin virus to mama or not. Cos mama always have itch legs, then I also see a few red dots on Xanthus' body. Super stress. Hope that is just normal red dots and not those dots will spread over the body one.

I think Xanthus lost really a lot of weight, he manage to wear back what he used to wear during he was 4 months tight clothes. Then he manage to wear with very loose allowance in between. Mummy really very sad about this incident, and making a promise now. Mummy," I will not eat half cooked cockles again!" As a punishment, I will not eat any shellfish unless is necessary. Necessary is like not to waste any food being ordered. From this experience I really will not any how eat.

Some progress update:
- Xanthus able to take a few step without and support. (Provided he got the energy, cos his in take still consider quite little. More fluid been taken at the moment to prevent dehydration)
- Xanthus love to watch "Barney,Sing along", especially "old mc donald have a farm" , "when you happy and clap your hand" and "spider song".
- Xanthus love to said " ya ya ya"
- Xanthus know wht is "pai pai" (Pray to the god, with action) [very cute, lol . especially the 1st time I saw him doing it]
- Xanthus new food - white bread and fish porridge with tomato. I wish to let him try salmon.
- Xanthus able to differenciate, what are his new and old toys.
- Xanthus new hang out place, "Shore restaurant". A peaceful environment, can see sea, aeroplane, ship and wave.

After a week of rest and care. Xanthus is getting better. But Family member around start to fall sick. After the intensive period of taking care of him.

7.30am We decided that should bring Baby to KK A&E, as Xanthus is not getting any better in the cough and appetite.
Phew~~
The doctor there did a very detail check on him and include an X ray for his lung.
- his lung is clear.
- a lot of phelgm
- Cough is triggered by the Phelgm
- Throat infection, as we can see little spot in his throat area

She prescribe us:
- Phelgm medication in order to reduce cough, as there is no cough medication for baby. (maybe somehow, is not very good to let baby get cough medication?
- Antibotic( Take when necessary, so far still unopen)
- nose drop, is he got block nose (so far, he has not gotten and block nose. Only Running Nose.

Before that actually we wanna to send him to see PD, some how they just don't accept walk in customer...??????
I think nowadays PD prefer to do injection as compare to normal walk-in patient?

Waited for our family GP to open his business. GP say his lung still clear, just drink more water should be able to clear his phelgm(phelgm is sticky fluid secreted by the mucous membranes of humans and other animals. Its definition is limited to the mucus produced by the respiratory system, excluding that from the nasal passages, and particularly that which is expelled by coughing (sputum). Its composition varies, depending on climate, genetics, and state of the immune system, but basically is a water-based gel consisting of glycoproteins, immunoglobulins, lipids, etc. Phlegm may be of several different colors.)

sigh... WATER only without any medication?
OK we just accept his comment and bring Xanthus bring and keep letting him drink more water. But some how his cough does not get better. He also seems to have no appetite whatever he intake will throw out... very "Ke Lian"

Quite serious cough as a baby. Start to vomiting after cough. He was unable to sleep through out the whole night. We also unable to sleep, as he seems to wake up hourly. Then also vomited straight after the feed. Got to clean up the bedsheet, floor and etc.

Tonight is his 1st time eating fish porridge cook by "po po", he seems to like the taste of the porridge.

Xanthus is going to reach his 6 mths milestone in just a week time.
We started to give him semi solid food on 22 Nov 2008. We started with Heinz's Pumpkin & Sweetcorn Puree. He loves it so much and manage to eat half a bottle.
So we got more for him and also got him fruit juice and other favour.

He dislike the Heinz's Pear & Banana puree, I also don't like. The taste is more towards sour.
He is alright with Carrot and Sweet potato puree. But after having too much, he got constiption. So Ke lian. The Heinz's Apple juice taste very sour also. He don't like it and I also don't like it. But the prune juice is really good, make him easier to poo poo. But the taste also not nice, like very tasteless.

He finally clear the Heinz's Rice cereal in a month time, actually we never gave him the semi solid food for his daily intake. Most of the time we only gave when we are taking care of him. Like Weekend and public holiday.

We also bring him to Jusco Tebrau, during mid of Dec. He is so so so excited to the shopping trip, I also love the place. Cos they have good facility for baby care. E.g with warm water for formula milk and sofa for feeding. Best thing is they still have yao lan provided. But of course, I will not try that out there.

Today also brought him to Juntion 8 and see daddy and mummy ate MOS burger... He seems facinated by our burger. Maybe I should said he is attracted by the delicious smell of our burger and MOS Chicken. Of course we never let him try such oily thing, bad for daddy and mummy is ok. But not for our little Xanthus.

I think if possible for the future weekend wanna to cook some different puree for him.

Tough Week

Tough week,
Hai.... Don't know how come this week keep raining. Super tough to work and take care of you during weekend.
Eventhough, everyday only able to sleep 4-6 hrs. But I think is worth it. Cos I am able to have the chance to hold you, cuddle you, etc.
Everytime during office hr, I will always think of you and will motivate me to work harder for you. Faster finish my thing faster go back home and play with you.

This week daddy went reservist got to wake up very very early, then mummy got to take public transport to work also got to wake up earlier than usual. So you also cannot enjoy much time with us. Everyday wake up at 6.30am send you over, then we can proceed to do our daily rountine task.

Daddy also very poor thing got to wake up so early everyday. Plus got to wake up for your during night for your night feeding.

Just wish you can increase your milk intake before you sleep, then we can have a longer sleeping time. I know it takes time. You will be able to do it, jia you!!!

Today is mummy'sbday plus is our 2nd wedding aniverary. Anyway with you around, we also cannot do any celebration. Can have a good lunch/dinner already is very good.

Anyway, Mummy brought you to my workplace. Let you familarise with my working environment, so you know how to come and find mummy next time... hahaha...
Of course no lah. As your gan gan ma and ah ban, plus mummy's shi fu very very looking forward to see how Xanthus like. Cos Daddy on the way to ICA also quite "shun lu" to send us there.
You are like a magnet there. As every jie jie and gor gor keep wanna to play with you. till you also wanna to play and don't wanna to sleep wor. So naughty. After let you enjoy all the fun, the nightmare is coming,

Cos you need to take Jab jab, anyway you are a brave boy la! Only cry when the Jab press in, after that like nothing happen. Not fun at all. Daddy and I very look forward to see you suffer from Jab Jab.

2nd trip to JB

2nd Trip to JB.

Xanthus look so excited for his 2nd trip. This round is a bit horrible. Cos daddy's car air con spoilted le. Then also super duper dirty. haha. Luckily when we get in, the air con work well.

We stay one night at ah ma's house. You must be super kelian, cos got to adapt to a diff environment. Sometime come to think of it, we are really bad. Sometime let you sleep in yao lan, sometime let you sleep on normal bed. Sometime let you sleep anywhere which is not dangerous to you. Phew... luckily you are still able to cooperate with us.

2nd day morning.

We finally met "ah tai" and "Tai gong". Just that today, you look a bit unglamous. lol...

nvm la, hot weather!

Then we went to Orang Asli restaurant to have our delicious lunch ( Include yours- milk milk )

We stay for another day, and daddy got slight injury on his back. lol how come he got injury lei? Cos he wanna to feed you with water and accidentally sneeze then injure his back. So poor thing right.
Despite he got injury, still don't want to go back to SG. He wanna to bring Xanthus to his ah gong's new Plentong Go Kart Office to take photo.

After that we finally can go home. But daddy's car air con dont wanna to cooperate. Almost the whole trip without aircon so stuffy. Then you little rascal, still wanna to poo poo in the car. After the trip, mummy and daddy need to recuperate our energy lose during the trip.

The 1st trip to JB to visit Xanthus' great grandparent plus granparent.
This is the 1st time they see Xanthus, except for grandma.
They are so excited with Xanthus around. But naughty Xanthus, keep fall asleep.
Not interested but the new environment.
He is still alright for the 2D1N trip, only he sleeping timing make my mil and fil almost wanna to faint. Cos he is American Master!! Awake in midnight and sleep in day.

But very lucky thing is after this trip, he realise he live in Asia!!! And he manage to auto switch back the timing by himself. So interesting. LOL....

The whole trip is quite relax for me, cos when we reached there is always ppl wanna to take care of him. So I can have a little break time. Just that maybe is new environment, wif diff water texture. He don't seem to drink much milk. After the trip, we realise he lose some weight.

Foot Printing ceremony

Foot Printing ceremony, it was done on 8 Sep 2008 10.40pm which is almost exactly 2 mths.
We had very tough time to take those foot print. Cos firstly he was sleeping and we scared we will miss taking his foot print. So just force him to take.
Partially he is very sensitive for his little foot, then as the clay required to exert certain force in order to get the foot print result. hai... Daddy tried very hard to be gentle, but he still cry very very loudly for the whole process.... all of us sweat...
Especially daddy ... haha...
Then uncle and HS jie jie also have very tough time to take video and photo for us. Xanthus, you must tresure that foot print ... haha...

On Course
I went for a 3 days course and Xanthus was being taken care by his grand grand parents.
I will said the 3 days is a challenge. As he always awake at night and sleep in the day time.
Then during the 3 days we also wanna to test out, are we able to handle him during night time plus working in the day time.
So far so good. We still able to manage, although we only sleep around 3-5 hr per day. We are still very satisfy. Cos we are able to play with him everyday. But during the day time will be tough, during the 3rd day on course, I almost fall asleep.
He also quite well behave for the 3 days with grand grand parents.

Johor Trip
During to my maternity leave is ending soon and Xanthus had not yet meet his grandpa(Ah gong) and his grand grand pa (tai gong). Then Daddy decide to bring him to JB.
He is so excited for the trip, cos we had not bring him out for quite sometime. During the trip, he fall asleep in the car seat, when he reached. He is so happy and keep smiling to everyone.
Make everyone think he is so cute like an angel.
So His ah ma wanna to take care of him for one night, hope we can have a soundly sleep. He is so naughty at night, keep waking up till 4 am can have the final sleep. Xanthus cannot sleep soundly at night also due to a few reason, change of environment and he have very sensitive nose. So whenever his nose block he will not have a quality sleep.
But ah ma think will be good to go temple and pray and ask for "fu" to burn and let bb drink. Of course Daddy will strongly object, as the stupid mummy still thought hmm just let them be. Then got scolding from daddy. lol.
After some much mummy also start to worried. Cos then burned "fu" will be drink !!! oh no, will there be any indigestion for Xanthus. What if drink already, Xanthus got sensitive to it and get a bigger problem.
Hai...
Sometime leave it to the care taker also don't know will they let Xanthus drink all this thing or not. Make daddy and mummy very worried.

But after the JB trip, Xanthus had changed his sleeping pattern. He start to wake up in day time and sleep longer in night time. Which is very gd, I don't know whether they had make him drink the "fu" already or not. If they did, then they will keep saying the "fu" work for Xanthus and make him sleep at night. sigh!!
If let Xanthus just pray pray I don't mind. But drink "fu" water, I think is over superticous.

My grandma keep my blanket after I grew up, till now she return to me and wished Xanthus could have the blessing from her and me.
Just quite unbelievable, I thought they throw my blanket away. As when I am young around 7 years old, I always want this blanket before I could sleep. I love this blanket very much, cos it is hand made by my grandma. When I got it back on my hand, I almost cried. I missed it so much. Then currently I can pass it to my son, Xanthus.

My mum told me, in older days. Every grandma will have to make one "百折被" (sew up by diff little clothes) for her grand children. It is like a blessing from her to her grandchildren.

Update before Xanthus reach his 3rd mth

Sleeping pattern

Actually before I move back from my wld place to serangoon, he had very good sleeping pattern. Wake up only once at night. But after moved back here, we really had hard time. My dad call him "Be Kor Ah Xia" (American Master in dialect), cos he wake up at night and sleep in day which is like US timing. Anyway there is also pro and con. Anyway currently he only wake up 3 times at night but each time just to feed him will milk, then he will fall alseep. The trick is must feed till he is really full then he will fall alsleep and don't play with him. Then Day time while he sleep I can do my thing, like cleaning and laundrying. Till around 12 pm then can bath him. After bath him, I also can rest with him again.

Maternity Leave
I thought I will miss work more, but over the time actually I think if possible to be a SAHM(Stay at home Mother) I will like to become one. Maybe when we got our own house. Then I don't mind taking care and Xanthus everyday. Currently I am so use to be with him. Will really miss him, sometime just let him taken care by some care taker. I just wanna to go home asap, just worried he is throwing his tantrum to the care taker. Another month left to be with him Full time.

Smile
He is in his 2nd mth, he start to smile and some time will make some gigaling sound. It is more obvious when he is sleeping. But it is very hard to catch his smile.

Breastfeeding
To my surprise , after I stop for 2 full week (When I am so tired due to his timing switching, then also due to I don't have a proper diet, mostly eat instant noodle or instant food. ). I tried to let him latch on and he actually quite alright to get breastmilk. But I tried to make it a habit once a day, better then don't have. Maybe jus an appetizer to him, then to me also better. I don't have to waste to to express out. Sometime when he is too too hungry he will reject, cos maybe the milk flow is not as fast as bottle feeding. But I just try to let him latch as often as I can. (If he is alright with it). At first I still worried abt nipple confusion and afraid after feeding on formula he will reject breaskmilk, as breastmilk is not as sweet as formula milk.

Feeding
Currently, I stop holding him in my arm when feeding him, cos he is growing. I start to cannot tahan his weight resting on my hand or leg for long time. I start to use short cut, let him drink in his sarong, or his rocking chair. So far so good, I also start lazy to do burping for him. If he is uncomfortable he will cry, then I will hold him up and rest his chin on my shoulder to do the burping.

Magical tool
Finally , my mother got him a "Yaolan", It is really a good tool. Sometime at night we are too tired, just swing him a little. Then he start to fall alseep again, and we don't need to hold him up in our hand. Phew.... We just let him sleep alternately in the Yaolan or on his one bed. But I think he still used to bed. Cos in the Sarong he cannot to streching, while on his bed he can do whatever he want.

Just another few more days he will reach his full 2nd month and moving on to his 3rd month.

We will be bring him to Johor after his 2nd month... hmm quite looking forward. But also worried he will need time to settle down. Cos everytime we switch a place he will need time to adapt.

But last night we moved back from wld again, this round he able to adapt back quite fast. Maybe is due to the portable yao lan....

It has been quite sometime, I did not manage to update any latest news of Xanthus.
Busy settling Xanthus down at our own place.
We had been moving him from my mum's place back to our place and back to my mum's place and finally back. So maybe baby need sometime adapt to change in environment. I also have tough time to settle him, almost get depression again.
I just wonder when can we get our very 1st home. hai ......

Anyway, Xanthus also had his up and down during these days. He got his newly set up playpen bed and he don't really like the change in bed. (He used to sleep in a little basket, but when he stretch it looks a bit not enough space for him). Then another reason to change a new bed, also due to our room got not space to place the basket. As in place on the bed, then we got not enough space to sleep, place on the floor we afraid that will be too cooling for him.

After move back, Xanthus also got quite a number of issue arise.
1st Change in environment,

2nd His blocked nose issue also caused us having tough time at night. (He seems to be sensitive to air-con) One of the GP suggestion us to use eye drop to soften his dirt in his nose and either dig or suck out if bb had very had block nose. We tried w/o the eyedrop, just use warm water, and the block dirt (pee sai) was as big as our adult one.

3rd His umbilical cord got some redness, we afraid he got infection. At his 1st Heb B injection, I check with the Dr., she told me it look fine. But after a few days it seems to grow bigger, I checked with the elderly at home. They told me should use sesame oil to clean it, before bath him. Anyway we never, so end up see a GP. The kind GP did not collect any charges from us, he told us this is a very small issue, go back use salt water to clean. As concentrated salt water will be a bit painful to the redness, he told us also can use 0.9% sodium chlorine. I remember we got a eye drop for bb which had the same contain. So I checked with GP whether we can use that. He gave the green light for us. We tried his method and it works. At least there is lesser yellowish discharge.

4th Burping, Sometime he just too naugthy to let us burp him after his feeding. Then he cry and cry due to some gas at his stomach, I think it was known as colic.

5th Heat rash, he start to have rashes on his face and upper body. Maybe caused itchness to him and he keep crying and crying. Apply some bb powder on his upper body, but caution not to his folds.

6th Sleeping habit changed. This is the one, I suffer most. Cos currently I sleep according to his sleeping hr, if there is change and I did not follow well. I will be very tired to handle him alone.
Currently he like sleep at 2am and wake up around 12 pm the next day, lucky I am not working if not I had hard time to follow this kind of sleeping schedule.

Xanthus going to be a mth old in jus a few days time.

HE is getting more and more naughty.

The previous day he was down with serious blocked nose. Very poor thing, cos there is a very big piece of dry mucus stucked in his right nostril. He is using his mouth to breath. Then We tried a lot of method to dig out for him(Of course with safety precaution):

1. The most traditional method: Adult use thier mouth to "Xi" out the mucus. At first both of us don't dare to do it. In the end I see him so pity, die die must try out. Too bad it don't work cos it is dry.

2. Use cotton bud damp with water: This don't work well due to the thing is stuck too further in and his nostril so tiny. Can't use this method.

3. Use hand gentlely press out: This is even more tough. Cos don't know is my gentle, gentle enough for him or not.

4. See doctor: I think it is the most safer solution. So we went to see a GP for assistant. He use some kind of magnifying scope to take a closer look at his nostril. Then he 1st use soem kind of eye drop to soften the mucus 1st then use special digger to dig out for him. Phew ...

It was out in just a min. With no injury. At 1st I still worried will injure him, cos that thing is a metal piece of equipment.

So he manage to have a soundly sleep last night. After his Daddy fed him.

Today,

he is trying to bully me again, keep wanna ppl to carry him. I jus rock him on a rocking chair, he only manage to sleep for an hr.

Then I trying to think of way to let him sleep, so I hugged him to sleep on my body. Till he sleep soundly, I place him back to his sleeping basket. Then squeeze a boster in between him, let him thought that is my hand. This last for 15 min, he cried again. sigh.

During this 3 week of experience with Xanthus, I can only said I enjoy the process.

Beside I enjoy the process, daddy also enjoy:

Sometime I get so frustrated especially, hard to get him to sleep. So I can have a brea

(Finally fall asleep, after back from Msia High Com for making his birth cert.)

Oh no he is awake again, and trying to bully us by serving him milk milk. Sometime a bottle is not enough, he may wan more. After drank his milk milk, he will poo poo, then change a new diaper he either poo poo or wee wee again.

Sigh, So got to change another new one.

Xanthus finally discharge from hospital today.

Can see from his skin color, he look better now. Compare to the yellowish skin color.
Currently the thing I am worrying is feeding problem.
I don't know shall I continue Breastfeed him or bottle feed him.
Actually, I felt quite frustrated. Cos I plan to breastfeed him due to a lot of unforeen circumstance. Like, he got jaudice need to admit to hospital for a few days stay. So I only manage to give him breast milk once per day. Sometime I really feel like giving up. Cos seems like eveyrthing breast feed him, either my hubby or mum keep asking me to top up with formula. I also don't know what shall I do. Cos I know once top up with formula, there will not be enough breast milk in future. Cos it works in term of demand and supply. If after formula feed him, there will not be a demand and then my supply of course will not be enough and will not increase also.
Hai....
Baby which do you prefer? If you prefer formula, I rather give up breast feed earlier and will not make myself suffer so much.
If you prefer breast feed of course I will not mind to continue and try hard to increase my supply.

I just wish you can grow well. Anyway I also a newbie mummy, still got a lot of things to learn.

Xanthus was hospitalised.....

Sad ...( He is on the 3 way UV light, which is in the very left cot. Yesteray night, we went to see him, due to his high jaudice level, doctor even advise to remove his pampers and expose to the light. Really very Ke Lian)

We went to see our PD yesterday, he told us Xanthus's Jaundice level was very high(20.6). I am not really sure how is this being measure. But in order to measure his jaundice level, they actually did a blood test for him. They poked a tiny hole on his left heel and then draw 2 straw of blood from there. Hai ..

When I looked at it, I really felt super sad for him. Cos he only so tiny and he keep crying and crying when they draw the blood from his little heel.

What is jaundice?

Jaundice means a yellow skin colour. They always said this is very common in new born babies, especially in their 1st 3 weeks of life. This is due to too much yellow bile pigment in the blood.

How does this bile pigment get into the blood?

1. Certain no. of red blood ceel in the blood break down and are replaced every day.

2. The broken down red blood cells release a yellow bile pigment.

3. The mature and healthy liver quickly removes the pigment from the blood and changes it into a non-poisonous substance.

4. The non-poisonous substance is passed out of the body with the faeces and urine.

Normally causes of jaundice...

- An immature liver which canot remove and change the bile pigment quickly enough.

This condition is temporary. The baby's liver will soon mature in a few weeks.

- G6PD deficiency

G6PD or glucose 6 - phosphate dehydrogenase is a substance that strengthens the wall of red blood cells.

When a baby is deficient in or lacks G6PD, his red blood cells tend to breakdown easily.

This condition is permanet.

Treatment of baby jaundice.

- If is mild, then will just observe at home and just do some sun bath through the morning or evening's sun.

- If increase or severe, will have to take the baby to hospital for Phototherapy which a special light is used to break down the bile pigment, or

Blood exchange transfusion where baby's own blood with the bile pigment is replaced by donor blood without the pigment.

If there is G6PD, there is several precaution to take note for the rest of his life:

- tell doctor/dentist

- Don't use mothballs

- Don't give traditional medicines, certain herbs and certain beans such as san zi ji, fava bean(bian dou/ kacang parang) and chuan lian(banned in SG)

- breastfeeding mothers should not take any of the abv too much, and cos chemical reactions to the baby through breast milk.

Lucky things, when today we went to see him around 1pm, his jaundice level drop to 12.9. Phew... and he is on the 2 way light. I told my hubby, he seems to go through little tough training in the hospital stay. Then we also go in the right timing, and able to breastfeed him.

Already 5 day from Xanthus arrived.

So far still able to cope with him with my mum and hubby's help.

Just a bit stress with BM... cos he seems to like formula more.

Today he just cut his face with his sharp finger nail. Hai... Let him wear mittens, then he keep removing them. Quite sad to see the little cut on his face.

8 Jul 2008
6 am - I went to the toilet and realise uncontrollable water keep leaking. But still unsure whether is my water bag burst or just false alarm. I put a sanitary pad and when back to the bedroom and wake my hubby up. He asked me what shall we do, then he went to take his cam coder and start recording the story of the day. As for me, I quickly sms my colleague I can't go work and need to go for gynae check up and confirm. (Actually, I should just go TMC. Just becos we thought we got save some bucks if we wait till 11am then admit to the hospital. Some more I don't feel and contraction at the moment. But in the end, the check up with gynae also cost us quite a lot of extra bucks.)

7am - Already done my last bath and had wantan soup for breakfast, just in case admitted to the ward and unable to intake any more food.

8am - Hubby asked got any pain, but I don't feel and pain. Just that I had a feeling water bag some how is leaking, cos the pad I place at 6am already super wet. Since gynae's clinic open at 9am so we decide to slack a while at home then go to visit her later.

9am - We make our way to the gynae's clinic and register for our turn.

10am - Gynae's just arrived the clinic.

11am - Gynae done a few test and confirm my water bag burst and I will have to deliver within 24hr after my water bag burst. Then I only had 2 cm dilation. and I will need to induce and admit to the observation ward. She ask me to have my lunch first then go to do admission to the TMC.

12pm- Gotten my lunch (Chicken Rice), then admitted to the observation ward. Then straight away the midwife empty my bowel. Then check for my contraction status. I still don't feel the pain yet. So happy rest on the bed. While the mid wife is checking for available delivery ward for me.

130pm - We got a delivery ward. Ward 9 of the TMC delivery ward. Then waiting for 10 cm dilation

5pm - my dilation only 5 cm, and I start to feel the pain. I check with nurse still got how long to go? and she told me now half way and normally is 1 hr 1 cm dilation. I was like "huh? still got 5 more hours to go? Sigh.... " I still able to endure the pain, but start to have a bit of stress. Whenever hubby wan to take photo or video. I keep ask him to keep himself entertain and leave me a lot. Gynae had a check on me and decide to add on the drip for induce, to accelerate the speed.

7.30pm- Due to the accelerate in the contraction, I am not able to take the stress. Even though just 3cm more to go. I decided to go for epidural, as the nurse also realise I start to push unnecessary. I afraid ended fainted at 10 cm. lol. Then hubby told me he meet one of his childhood friend here, whose wife also in the delivery ward which is next to me. Then her EDD also same with me. What a coincidence!

9pm - 10 cm dilation. I am so happy, cos with epi I don't feel anything. But due to the numbness, I also had problem in pushing. Cos They want me to push before gynae arrive.

10pm - gynae arrive and they only manage to see a very little part of baby head, and gynae decide to assist me in delivery. 1st by vacuum with kiwi cup. Wht a cute name. But the assistance was failed due to the technique I push is incorrect. Baby head got a bit of bruises and injury due to this. Gynae decide to use forcep to assist me.

1045pm - Xanthus finally arrive... phew... 3.205KG 7.1 pounds. 51 cm length.

11pm - Gynae continue to do the clean up and we realise due to my unnecessary push and resulted the gynae and the nurses got my blood stain. Even the delivery room's ceiling. lol the vacuum really too power.

Wk 37 day 3

Currently, it is more or less like a waiting game.

As we went to see Dr on 25 Jun, the baby weight around 3 kg at his Wk36 day 6. To me, it is quite scary. Cos I don't know will he get too big and end up I required to go for induce or C-section. I really wish I could give birth naturally, if possible drug free delivering even better.

But see how things go, I will try to control my normal diet. Actually I don't mind he come out slightly earlier than EDD cos it will be quite tiring to keep waiting and waiting. So far he had been a good boy recently, not too much movement during my working hr and only move a lot when I am at home. Or else it is a bit distracting when I work.

Wk 35

Today is Wk 35, another 5 more weeks to go.
His weight is 2.5 kg and I gained 20 kg in total. Sigh that's a lot for me and not for him.
The following picture, look like he is showing his happy smile to us. Actually last night I dream of him pop out, hmm a bit too fast. So I start to get panic and scare. I wake up at 3am in the morning and surfing internet to find out more information about delivery.
Then went back to sleep at 5.30am. Lucky thing is today I apply a full day leave and have a good rest at home. Phew, if not even go office, honestly speaking I really have no mood to work.

Today, Gynae reassured his gender is male again.
From Wk 32 onwards, I can feel his large movement around my tummy. Sometime I will really feel irritated, especially during working hrs. So far I start to used to it.
Maybe due to my worry to deliver earlier than my EDD, I start to ask Gynae a lot of question, and today she is really very nice and explain a lot of things to me. Like what kind of things I should take note. She also printed out the hospital bag checklist for me, if not I also don't really know what to bring/dump into my hospital bag.

For the ultrasound today, She also check for a few more things like, is the cord functioning properly. Is the placenta too low for me? So far alright.
She also checked whether I have high risk to go for c-section or not. So far, the answer from her is still able to go for normal delivery. So I just pray hard, I wish to go for normal delivery. Cos during the 5 weeks there is still possibility that unable to go for normal delivery.

She also asked whether had we prepare babies things. So far we have the minimum things for him, cos we think if not enough then get during my confinement month. No point buying too much to stock up and in the end we might need need those unnecessary things. Hospital also provide a lot of free sample, like maternity milk powder for mummy, I had Dumex, Similac,Emma, Annum, etc but I don't really like the taste. ( I have not try Dumex and Similac, maybe will try out whether I am able to drink it or not) Or else also quite wasted.

She also very kindly explain to us her packages, unlike the previous round. She ask us to check with her nurse. So I really very satisfied with her professional advise and help today. Hopefully, I am able to see that in the future 5 weeks too.

Actually after my previous round with her, I was wondering "Is there a need to visit gynae?" seems like for earlier stage, they only just ensure baby is normal. Then ask you whether you need any more multi-vitamin or other supplement or not. So far I don't like to take all those pills, I feel like having indigestion after taking calcium and fish oil supplement. So I still have some at home.

My next appoint will be another 2 weeks later. Hopefully, Xanthus can stay still in the tummy, Cos as for work wise I still have a lot of things to clear before I able to go on leave.

Week 32 Day 1

23 May 2008 (Friday)
I think this is the toughest gynae's appointment I had so far. As the gynae refer to to do a glucose test, which required me to fast for 9/12 hrs I can't remember. Anyway I just fast for 12 hrs, in case she need me to come again for the test.

The test required me to fast from the night before I see her, so due to can't even drink or eat after certain time. After the 1st blood test I have to wait for 2 hrs for another blood test. Therefore,I really have problem in sleeping, I knew I got to wait till at least 11am to get my 1st breakfast. I could say I only sleep for 3-4 hrs, then waiting for the time to come. Of course early in the morning, I asked my hubby to wake up earlier and hopefully we could reach there earlier and faster get our test done and can get a proper meals.

We reached there abt 8.45pm, and our appointmen is 9am. Sigh, I did not check that the clinic opening hours is from 9am. So we sat and waited for them to open the clinic. As usual, those clinic staff take their own sweet time, therefore I think they turn their opening sign at around 9.05am to 9.10am.

Then my appointment is at 9am, 5-10 mins I still able to wait. But the problem is after waited outside the clinic for quite sometime, go in still got to wait for registration, urine test, then measurement of height and weight(Phew lucky nv put on any weight within the month). Finally my 1st blood test could be taken, already 925am. So I checked with the nurse, are we going to see the gynae 1st or after our 2nd blood test. She said up to you, but will be advisable to see her 1st. So While taking my sweet glocose drink, we wait for our turn to see the gynae.

The glucose drink is orange favour, I don't really like it too sweet and got to finish the whole bottle, so I secretly(anyway the nurse also seeing me pass my drink o my hubby)let my hubby drink it. So I manage to finish at aroun 925am, and I will need to take my 2nd blood test at 1125am. Then wait and wait, till 10 am I almost fall asleep. I checked with the nurse, when is our turn. She mentioned we are the 1st patient for our gynae. Huh 1st patient, which means she is no here yet. Sian....

Wait till around 10 plus, I finally saw our gynae slip in from their back door. Hai, so bore, can't go anyway cos still waiting to see the gynae. After 5 min, is our turn. As usual, she just check with me anything I need her advice. But I am already so sleepy and hungry. I can't think of any. I only mentioned to her I got problem in sleep. Then she told me is normally la, baby is training me. Cos when the baby is out, I need to take care of him.???? such a funny answer. lol
Maybe she see I got no reaction, she asked whether I need any pills to have a soundly sleep? Hai, nvm. Cos I knew eat too much pill also not good for bb.

So she proceed to the most exciting part of the appt, which is ultrasound scanning...
But I also don't know wht she scannned, around 5 min. She printed a picture for us, and tell us. Don't worry, your baby is very good. Currently weighted 1.9kg and his head is down.

lol We look at each other, that's fast. I also don't know wht is she scanning and is done. She just checked with me any supplement I still required.
But I don't like to take the supplement and I still have a lot at home. So did not get any more from her.

This end our gynae appt, which is around 1040am. Fast right?

Still have sometime while waiting for the 2nd blood test, we check with the clinic staff for the delivery package which they provide. Sigh, actually the package they have only 2 choice which is 1 bedded and 4 bedded. So they are also busy, we decide to check with the hospital staff.

Since we got nothing to do, so just sign up for the hospital tour for more details. Anyway previously we did went through a short one, due to someone in the tour grp fainted so it was like kind of cancel. This round, we just clear our doubt while having the tour.

The tour, really give us a better idea. But just the package pricing is kind of too details till we are lost. The helpful staff did try to explain to us with her best knowledge. But some of the thing she referred us to check with patient services officer at another counter.

Due to the tour ended quite late, I almost want to faint le. Cos really super hungry. We just go back to the clinic for 2nd blood test.

After the 2nd blood test, the staff there kind of pressure us whether to book the hospital room at that time. But we still need time to consider which one we want. Then I also too hungry to think of anything to be done. Wasted a lot of time there, and by that time there is also a lot of patients in the clinic and we need to wait and wait for our turn. (For just doing the payment for the glucose test)

So this is really the most miserable gynae's appt that I had.

Actually, I just wonder is there a need for gynae? Sigh.... I start to ponder, I think seeing gynae is really waste of time and money to me.
Maybe just for the sence of security.

Week 11 onwards

Week 13 Day 1,

She confimed that Xanthus currently is quite stable now and I can start to do some exercise if I want. But exercise, I don't have so much time to go for exercise, I think I will prefer to have more sleep if possible. But we did plan for a short Holiday to HK, after we knew I could go for short trip.

He is currently 6.66cm and waving to us when the gynae conduct the ultrasound. Daddy is very excited to see his active movement from the scaning machine.

Week 17 Day 4,

This round, gynae did a quite details scan. Partially, he keep moving, and gynae cannot take a good shot and good measurement. She show us his little tummy and curled his whole body up. Seems like we are disturbing him from resting. This is taken before we left for our HK, Macau trip. Anyway, I had very bad morning sickness. But my morning sickness usually occured during the night or late afternoon. I can throw up whatever I ate, and having a empty stomach. I also don't know how I endured these weeks.

Week 23

We had schedule our details scan with TMC, for more details scanning. It was done straight after we are back from holiday. I was fully discover from morning sickness and start to eat a lot in HK and Macau. Especially those oily food, like fried pork bun, timsum, fastfood. Yummy yummy.

Daddy can see him quite clearly during the scan, but due to the angle of the screen, I did not have a very good view. The nurse conducted the scanning told us, should be a boy. Anyway we are both happy to get either a boy or girl. As this is our 1st child, does not matter to us.

Week 24 day 4,

This round I had increase 4kg within a month, I think I am overwhelm by can eat a lot of good food and did not give myself any restriction to any food temptation. Just eat and drink which ever I liked. Especially, this month there is a week I went back to stay with my parents. They afraid that I did not eat, then cook a lot of dishes for my dinner. By the time I reached home already 9 to 10 plus after OT. Before I board the train, I already have something light for dinner. So It was like a week of supper for me.

This round gynae did not tell us his length only mentioned abt his weight approx 700g. Then I already put on 10 kg from my original week. Sob sob, he is not even 10% of my weight. Seems like all the food intake had build fats in my body.

Week 28 day 1,

This visit really gave my gynae a shock, cos I gained another 5Kg more from their last measurement. She was like questioning me, what did I had within the month. Basically, I don't know I just eat and eat. Feel hungry just eat, feel like eating that kind of food, then just eat. Never think of I could gain so much within a month. Maybe I ate too much bakery stuff, like swiss roll (my favourite), then cheese bun, etc. I can have 2 slice of swiss roll and 3 cheese buns for my breakfast. Then another2 slice of swiss roll for my late tea break.

As for my lunch, I could have a plate of mixed rice, then another plate of wantan mee. I can finish them all, w/o leaving any left over.

Maybe that's the reason I gained so much.

This time gynae only focus on guiding me to have a proper diet, the scanning part she just scanned to get his weight. We also did not have a very good look, partially Xanthus keep moving around. really hard to catch a proper view.

Then I also having some problem with my top right tummy, cos I keep feeling very painful after food intake. gynae expect might be galloon stone or some liver problem. Anyway, I also can't do much as pregnancy will have a lot of restriction in medication intake. So I just choose to ignore the problem first.

Start from Week 6 Day 1

Pregnancy can be very interesting and also can be very tough for me.

I start to realise that my body is not feeling that good and seeing a few doctors, most of them said I might having stomach flu or etc. I also thought could I be pregnant and I tried on the pregnancy kit by myself also having negative result.

Till the Week 5 of my pregnancy, I see a GP again for pregnancy test, and the result is positive.

Then he advise us to look for gynae for further pregnancy details.

So we also never ask people for recommedation or what, our priority is to get a female gynae. Cos I will not be comfortable to see a male gynae and so do him.

We went to TMC and get the gynae list from the information counter then just choose those doctor with one look and we know is a female doctor. Then we called for enquiry. We choose ACJ, partially it was the top few gynae on the list. We choose Dr. Caroline Khi, cos we prefer the timing of the appointment than another female doctor. That's how we select our gynae. LoL.

1st Appointment

We are very excited and looking forward. As don't know how will it be like.
She is a very friendly and caring doctor, as for our 1st impression.
She perform the Ultrasound scan for us to confirm my pregnancy. Before she start, she also mentioned to us we might not be seeing baby heartbeat as it might be too early.
Then we are really lucky, we can heard Xanthus's heart beat at the point of time.
He was very tiny, 0.41cm only. We only manage to see his heartbeat blinking on the screen.

2nd Appointment

This is Week 11 Day 1.
I cant't really recalled what had happended, only knew Xanthus had grew 10 times from last time we saw him.
That's really interesting.

From what gynae scan, he was 4.27cm cm in term of length.

Today, is 30wk and 4 days which you had been created. ( According to Gynae's records)
I wished to create a blog for you for quite a long while, just that last night dream of create a blog for you, and I have the time today. I must quickly do it, or else I will either forget or keep delaying.
